We used it to waterproof pipes we've insulated for winter. We just cut a strip off the 17 foot side and wrapped as far a it would go and then started another; then we came back and hit it with the air from a heat gun and it shrank and stuck together mostly like you'd expect. The plastic adhered to itself--with some help--and shrank to fit very nicely even over pipe clamps and other semi-sharp bits, without tearing. If you overheat it, especially if you are heating it unevenly, it will form a hole, so you have to use some care. I don't know why the manufacturer/seller says you need a propane torch--if you have a heat gun, like you would use for any heavy shrink wrap (like wiring) or paint removal, it'll easily do the job. (A hair dryer is another story.)
