And is the arbor in the press good to use for new keyless chuck?** A: These wedges are used opposing each other to remove a jacobs chuck from its drive arbor taper. (JT #3) A hammer, vice or arbor press may be used to compress together the wedges and force the chuck free from the press fit arbor. For mounting a new chuck on the drive arbor, I have simply driven the chuck with a wood block and mallet (be sure to turn the chuck so the chuck grip "fingers' are retracted inside the body). Heating the chuck slightly, has also been effective to secure the fit to the taper spindle. **Q: Will this work for jt33? I even warmed up the chuck in the oven and cooled off the arbor in the freezer. Then I put the two together with a solid tap of a mallet. I never really expected to take them apart again, figuring the chuck would wear out, and I'd just pitch the whole thing. Well. the arbor got all galled up over the years, but aside from a bit of rust spots, the Jacobs 3A chuck is as good as new. Considering the way I put the parts together, I knew the thing might be a little stubborn in coming apart. I tried every trick I knew, but it was like the parts were welded together. I gave up and bought these wedges, and two minutes after they were delivered, the chuck was separated from the arbor. The only thing that drives me nuts, is paying 25 bucks for something I may never need again. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good product *by E***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2014* I wanted these for use on a Harbor Freight 13" Bench-top Drill Press. The stock items on my drill press include an arbor with Morse Taper #2 (MT #2) and stock chuck which has a #3 Jacobs Taper (JT #3).The dimension between the tines (horizontally) fits the taper just right (about 7/8"). However, for my case and configuration more vertical movement is needed to separate the chuck from the taper.As it is, with both wedges in place (max vertical dimension) there is still a slight gap between the highest point on the wedges and the contact point on the taper making this solution not applicable. i.e. two wedges did not deliver enough vertical displacement needed to separate the chuck from the arbor ... it was close but another set of these (actually one more wedge) would do the trick.In the past I had been using a 12" length of hardwood (a scrap of black walnut actually) and a light mallet to remove the chuck by tapping on it from a sharp downward angle adjacent to the quill. Unhappily, this method can not only dislodge the chuck it can also dislodge the taper (with the chuck still attached). Wedges really are the right way to go because they work to SEPARATE the two parts from EACH OTHER. Just make sure you have something like a small plastic bucket with plenty of rags in it under the chuck to catch it and prevent it from damaging itself or what it hits as it drops from the tool (with or without the taper attached : )In general the product is of decent workmanship and material quality and I would recommend this product. My solution is in progress ... this will be to either cut a section out of a large washer to use as a vertical spacer or simply buy another set of these wedges which seems like the easiest solution given the time and effort needed to manufacture a spacer versus the relatively low cost of this otherwise fine product. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars works well *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017* Worked well.
