Review: Fantastic hydration pac - UPDATE: See my photo? That’s my Ogio Dakar AFTER a high speed crash. In addition to sustaining a number of injuries, my one-piece leathers, boots, and helmet were completely destroyed. All top-of-the-line gear. The only two pieces of gear that survived to be worn another day were my Alpinestars gloves, and this backpack. It’s pretty crazy, but despite sliding on my back and side and then tumbling in the runoff dirt, the only damage to the pack was that the carbon fiber shell was scratched up. It otherwise looked Fine. Unbelievable. That was back in 2001, and I continued to use the pack regularly until a couple months ago, when the fabric holding one of the zipper pockets began to tear. Nothing too bad, but I wanted it repaired. Contacted Ogio to see if they could do the repair, and to my surprise they quickly sent me a brand new pack. Ogio customer service goes above and beyond, and this pack is simply stellar. So well made. It’s a 12L capacity and Holds a ton of gear—and this is coming from an OCD pack rat. The hydration bladder is the best I’ve ever used. Top loading for easy filling and drying, never had mold, always smells clean, water tastes good. It also has a unique plastic spine that keeps the bladder trim so it doesn’t take on an amorphous shape that could slosh around. The securing mechanism on top is bullet proof as well, using two levers that lock into place. Very well designed. The bite valve is excellent, and I like that it’s actuated by rotating the valve joint. That’s a good feature because if you put your pack on the ground, the elbow of the joint in the closed position usually prevents the bite valve from touching the pavement. I experimented with a lot of bite valves and went back to Ogio’s. My only issue to date really has to do with my riding style more than the Dakar itself. Relative to small hydration packs it’s slightly heavy. Probably no more so than other 12L packs. I’m going to continue using it for longer rides, but for a few hours of spirited canyon riding, will be getting a smaller, super low-profile pack—maybe 4-8 liters. I really only need 1-1.5 liters of water for a 4-5 hour ride in the canyons. If you like to pack a lot of essentials on your day-long rides, get this pack—you won’t regret it. Looks killer, too. By the way, no interference at all with the aero hump on my Dainese race leathers. Sitting high up feels more secure. The adjustability is great, and the motorcycle-specific quick release harness system is a game changer. Definitely a 5 star product with a lifetime warranty. Ogio rocks. ——————- Original review If you’re big, read this: This pack has two adjustment sizes. I was minutes away from returning it when I decided to play with strap connection points. Lo and behold it instantly fit. Later, I realized that a card on the product demonstrates this, but I don’t always read instructions for stuff like bags. I mention this first because I’ve found reviews of other Ogio hydration packs where people complained the straps were too small. I plan to write a longer, in-depth review when time affords, but in short: this hydration pack is awesome. I ride sportbikes in the canyons, and this pack is perfect. It’s bigger than I was expecting. In fact, I wanted something a bit smaller. The hydration kit (bladder and hose) is about as high quality as it gets. The bag has so many conveniences, and it carries weight well. I switched out the tubes with products from Osprey and Platypus. I also rigged it with neodymium magnets; one on the right strap, and the other on the tube. Cold liquid in the bladder remains cold by virtue of the insulation in the bladder pocket. The bag is pretty rugged, too. I have a Dainese Laguna Seca 4 one-piece suit with a large speed hump. The backpack comfortably fits as it sits lower on the back. Highly recommended.
Review: Comfortable versatile reliable. - It’s a very comfortable piece of kit. Also it’s something beyond “ordinary” packs like camelback. The key is the very minimalist harness. The “button” is very good— and there are 3 of them, so multiple ways to put on and take off this bag. Also, no dangling straps etc. the bladder is quite a surprise. It’s sort of a bag that is closed shut with two latches. I thought for sure it would be a fail and was prepared to replace it with a more conventional one, but it is practical, leak proof and really easy to fill. I’m a total convert! One last point: the harness gives such a good fit you may wonder if or how it can fit. I wear the pack over an extra-large motorcycle jacket, and it fits great! The value of the “X”style straps is that they carry a load better than the usual straps. I’ve had several 100oz. Camel backs, but this Ogilo is way more comfortable.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: In the front hard shell compartment, can i fit a dji mavic air drone in that spot?**
A: It’s not a tight fit at all. My Air 2s fit just fine with room for batteries. Controller had to go into pain pocket

**Q: Is there space between the bag and persons body as to not give a sweaty back?**
A: I used this backpack when riding my sport bike in 90 degree weather. I filled the hydration pack half with ice and water. Still had sweaty back by way better than any other pack I’ve used. I like it so much I bought two. One for my dirt bike and one for my street bike.

**Q: Is there a slot for the water hose to pass through?**
A: No, but there is a broad, somewhat adjustable Velcro band on each arm strap. I pass my hose thru the one on the left strap.

To put this in perspective, I where this pack while motorcycling. Before this pack I used a lot of camel baks, and the hose would often blow behind me. With the Ogio the hose is always where I want it, and there are no small plastic parts to break.

**Q: Could this hold a small laptop?**
A: This will fit up to 14 inch laptop as an absolute max. It has to be loaded in there first but it will fit. Again, you will not get a laptop larger than that in this bag, 14 inches is a teeny bit of a stretch. Also for whatever its worth I don't know that you'd be able to fill the bladder with a laptop of this size in there but it works for me to use it as my small work commute bag (no water required), while I use the bladder on trail rides or for long weekend rides in the Colorado heat.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great backpack, light weight, durable, and plenty of storage.
*by M***N on March 19, 2024*

I'm using this while riding my 2022 Triumph Speed Triple Motorcycle, so street riding. Great back for hauling my GoPro camera equipment and other misc items I take when riding. Unlike some backpacks that are heavy before you even put anything in them, this is fairly light weight, yet durable and well constructed. The hydration pack is a bonus for those hot days.
