I fill them to about 1 1/2" below the top. With the lids on I'm able to carry and move them with no problems. With the lid off I'm able to raise the bucket to head height and pour the honey into a strainerr. Theres an odd lookiking lid locking mechanism on the side of the bucket that you push in tto get to the edge of the lid to open it. The mechanism doesn't break when you do this which means you can be reusing the same buckets for a long time.
