You don't need to be an electrician to connect it, I just found a manual from my old intercom online, took a photo of how wires are connected, in the manual read which wire goes to which terminal and put cables in the corresponding terminals on the new one. Replaced old intercom Comelit Vox 2000 from late 80s early 90s. Review: Great product - Initially I was concerned about the ease of instalment due to some of the reviews. It turned out to be quite straightforward so I thought I would outline it in a review. Here is how I set it up: 1. First I took the cover off our old intercom unit, which was a Comelit. See image 1. 2. Fermax Loft 3399 comes with a wiring manual. See image 2. From the labels of the wires in the previous step, I figured out which wire goes where and which switch to set. 3. Once the wiring was done, I put the cover on and tested. That was all. See image 3. Now, if my previous intercom brand wasn't in the wiring manual, I couldn't have installed it with such ease; so, I'd say check that before you buy. If you mean how much cable do you need to reach the connections then not very much as there are plenty of holes in the back, but the more cable you have coming out of the wall the more flexible your mounting options will be. **Q: What sound does this make please?** A: A quite harsh flat-sounding buzzer. There is no volume control. It's not a pleasant noise, but you won't be able to ignore it. **Q: I have 8 wires coming out of wall (red, green, white, brown, blue). how do i connect it?** A: No real answer here. You need to establish what colours were used by the original installer. Can you get acess to the main external buttons? Did you take note of the connections of the previous handset? Its selv so dont be afraid to try different connections to get it working. The best way is to use a multi meter to find your +12v and 0v then find the lock activation by shorting it on +12v (the lock will buzz) then if memory serves me correct just switch the speech and ring until it works. No damage can be done to the unit. However, despite people saying it's easy to fit, I am glad I had an electrician to do it. He also had a few problems as there are absolutely no instructions with it and had to test it on many occasions as the buttons inside are unclear.
