### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Flashlight!!
*by R***R on January 10, 2017*

This is a great flashlight for walking, hunting, work or Emergencies! It has a great Cree Xm-l T6 LED emitter that put out a nice neutral to cool white light with a smooth and wide beam when zoomed out and a nice and bright beam profile of the Led itself when zoomed in that can reach out pretty far if needed. It put out some great light when using the AAA Batteries and even more light when using an 18650 battery. For the price this is a great light that has 5 modes High, Med, Low, strobe and S.O.S and once you turn it off it will default back to the high setting the next time you turn it on. All in all it is a great light for the price!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Another great buy! If you don't own one of these ...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice flashlights at a great price

I am often amazed at the amount of change that has occurred in my life so far. It doesn't seem like it was all that long ago when the late autumn nights would find me traipsing about the river bottoms as my friends and I searched, usually in vain it seemed, the darkness for signs of a raccoon. In those days we drug around some lantern type light; a beast that ate through batteries like they were free at an all-you-can-eat buffet. The batteries weren't free though, and they weighed about the same as today's lawn mower batteries. If we were extremely lucky a new battery would last us through the several miles we'd walk and we'd bag a coon in the process – potentially earning us just enough money to pay for the gas we used and a new battery or two. Most nights didn't end that way; we'd typically run out of juice prior to seeing a raccoon and end up blindly stumbling over every obstacle there was between us and the truck parked on the side of some back-country gravel road. And we'd do that while carry a non-working flashlight that grew increasingly heavy with each step taken. Not that the flashlights worked all that well (when they did work) anyway: about the best we could hope for was a glimpse of eye-shine out to 40 yards. Anything further and the coon might as well have been in another state – we wouldn't see a trace of it.We would have given our right arms to carry something like the Wowlite XML-T6 (instead of the heavy, usually not working, hunk of lead that we carried) – but the technology didn't exist and all the money in the world couldn't have purchased what can now be purchased for a mere $15.99 (which buys you two Wowlite XML-T6 flashlights). What's in the box?2 Wowlite XML-T6 flashlights2 battery tubes (for use with an 18650 battery)(batteries not included)2 AAA battery holders (batteries not included)2 lanyards (attached)Wowlite XML-T6The Wowlite XML-T6 is a zoom-able flashlight – meaning the head slides in/out to go from flood to spot. Rather remarkably, especially at this price point, the head functions smoothly with almost no hint of play. What little play there is, is ever so slight and not in the least bit concerning. The body itself is machined from an aluminum alloy and features an anodized finish. There are no sharp edges to catch/cut and both the machining and the finish is done quite nicely. The head has well-cut grooves for heat dissipation, while the tail features smaller parallel grooves (tail cap) that aid in removing the cap and gripping the Wowlite XML-T6. There are no grooves (or knurling) on the body itself, but they are not needed as the flashlight is quite grippy as is – thanks to the cooling grooves on the head and smaller grooves that are exposed when the head of the flashlight is zoomed out. The head does have a narrow band of knurling – likely to aid in the removal of the lens itself. The Wowlite is very comfortable in the hand and easily operated with one hand. At a minimum length (zoomed in) of 5.67 inches, the XML-T6 will fit into most front pockets (unless you're wearing skinny jeans) although it is likely a bit too large for comfortable edc pocket carry. The XML-T6 will tail-stand – meaning it can function as a make-shift lantern when needed. The tail switch has a nice feel to it and operates smoothly, with an audible click when pressed and released. I like the fact that the green tail switch glows in the dark (after being exposed to light). The switch operated both the on/off functions as well as switching the various modes. From the off state, a full click and release of the switch turns the flashlight on. Another full click and release turns the flashlight off. Unfortunately, for my tastes anyway, turning the flashlight off also advances it to the next mode (when turned back on). There are 5 modes on the XML-T6: high, medium, low, strobe, and SOS. Half press the tail switch to advance to the next mode. Once you've reached the SOS mode, the next half press will bring the flashlight to high mode. The XML-T6 does not have a memory – meaning it does not recall the last used mode and will not return to that mode when turned on again the next time. The lens is a convex lens (curved) – and can be removed (just unscrew it from the head). Somewhat curiously there is no reflector – at least not one that I am familiar with. I'm not sure why that is, because I believe the XL-T6 would likely throw further if it had a reflector.I tested both flashlights with AAA batteries and 18650 batteries. In both cases the flashlight is much brighter with 18650 batteries (as expected). The included battery sleeve (18650 battery) does an excellent job of keeping the battery in place – no hint of battery wobble. There was likewise no hint of battery wobble with the AAA batteries and the prospective holder. While I didn't submerge the Wowlite in water, I did have the opportunity to try it out in the rain – no problems to report and the flashlight did get a good soaking.Wowlite XML-T6 BeamBeing a zoom-able flashlight, the XML-T6 is capable of going from a flood beam to a narrow spot beam. I quite like the flood beam – it is very effective and does a good job of lighting up a wide area; enabling the user to see well to the front and to the sides. The spot beam (zoomed out) is quite narrow and has almost no spill. It does a decent job of throwing though and will light up a (small) area out to 120 yards or so. Reflective street signs will show themselves quite a bit further away than 120 yards and it should be possible to see eye-shine (from animals) out to 150 yards or so. There's too much light pollution (here) to tell how much further though. The light tint is cool and a bit on the blue side. That is a problem only for the few “flashlight snobs” who can't stand blueish lights – the regular user will be so happy with the performance of the XML-T6 that he/she couldn't care less about the tint of the light. The maker claims a high output (using 18650 batteries) of 1600 lumens. I don't have the means of testing that, but I do own multiple flashlights that have outputs around the 1000 lumen level. I think the Wowlite (using a 18650 battery) was almost as bright as my 1000 lumen flashlights – the difference wasn't much at all – so my best guess is that the Wowlite flashlights (I received) are closer to being 950 lumen (max) flashlights. That's nothing to sneer at though, as the Wowlite flashlights are very bright.PositivesThe price. At $15.99 for 2 flashlights (that are well made and work as they should) this is a remarkable bargain.I really didn't expect the Wowlite to be as good as it is. I don't think it is fair to compare the XML-T6 to flashlights that are 10 X the cost of the Wowlite, but I am certain that the average user would be thrilled with the performance of the Wowlite – especially so when price is considered.Flood beam (zoomed in) – it does an excellent job of illuminating a large area. The beam itself is very pleasant and gives the user excellent visibility. I suspect that most users will find themselves using the flood position frequently.Fit & Finish – again, much better than I expected (at this price point). I think a user would have to be extremely picky to find any fault with the fit/finish.NegativesI'd like to see a change made to mode switching when the flashlight is turned off (when turned back on again, the flashlight is in a different mode than it was). I'm not saying the Wowlite should have mode memory, but it would be much better (IMO) if the flashlight always turned on in a specific mode – such as high or low. I don 't like strobe/SOS modes (a personal thing) and don't like having to go through those two modes to get to the mode I want. Kind of nit-picky I know, but I just don't like it.I'd like to see more spill light in the spot mode (zoomed out). That's a preference thing again – as most people won't care (they'll be amazed how far the light can illuminate objects).ConclusionThere is an old saying that goes something along the lines of “If you've only got one back-up plan, you've got only one plan.”The intent is that we should have more than one back-up plan because it is likely that our first plan won't work – so we'll be left with just the back-up plan. I think that holds true with flashlights – one is none and two is one.At $15.99 for two very good flashlights, most of us can afford to have extra (back-ups) flashlights to be placed in strategic locations: your vehicle, your home, your garage, etc..If you want to get the most out of your Wowlite flashlight, I'd recommend that you invest in a quality 18650 battery (and a charger) – in the long run you'll save money and get better performance. Be careful where you store it though, as lithium batteries don't fare well in colder temperatures.I'm giving the Wowlite XML-T6 4.3 stars out of 5. I think the negatives are slight and the positives justify the rating – especially at this price. My Wowlite flashlights will go to the workshop and my tackle-box. And if they get lost, I'll buy two more.
