STRONG *by P***E on Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2016* Works great! Sturdy and dependable. Perfect for a Car or Truck in the summer. Batteries have a maximum operating temperature of 130 F (55 C). A parked car in the sun can reach temps of 150 F, or higher. I can't rely on an electronic safe when the battery could explode or die. [Fumbling for a backup key is the last thing I want, and keeping a key near the safe seems risky]. Plus, in winter time a battery malfunctions below zero F. The 1911 Shot Lock uses a Simplex mechanical lock, requiring no batteries or key override. It's easy to change the code.You can press 2 buttons at once, but can't repeat any numbers in your code. Mix up your numbers and the thief won't have time to guess. The strength and quality of this safe makes up for the limited # of possible codes. I have found that using 2 buttons at once works fine, most of the time. A few times I had trouble pushing 2 buttons down at exactly the same time (my fault, my hand was angled and fingers were crooked), the code didn't work and I had to repeat it. Consider not using 2 buttons at once as part of your code. Adrenalin could cause a mistake when entering a code this way. You should get used to it either way. It slides perfectly under the seat of many cars. For tie down, I recommend the use of a heavy chain and padlocks rather than a cable in the corner slot. Cables are wimpy. Padlock one end of the chain to your seat frame, and slide a 2nd padlock thru the safe's corner slot and lock to chain. Shot Lock is the next level of portable gun safe. Much more secure than StackOn, GunVault, etc. My friends were impressed by the quality. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Great, heavy duty lock - but failed without cause or reason. *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2016* The safe served me well for several years and was never subjected to abuse or the elements. The box is used to transfer items across state lines, and without reason failed to open with the firearm inside. Nothing was jammed in the latches, but a single 12" screwdriver forcefully inserted in the side - with 30 seconds effort - released the hatch??!! Item removed, but if needed in an emergency, would have been another issue. That is, until I came across the shot lock 1911. It is not an over exaggeration to say this safe is one of the best, if not the best, for the price. Sure you can opt to pay less by selecting a sub $50 safe, but you will likely get what you pay for. For me, the 1911 model fits two firearms and two magazines (glock 23 and sig p228) comfortably. The safe is durable and well-constructed, also the lining inside protects your items. The locking mechanism and push button is easy to use and better than having to make sure you have batteries--more reliable, IMHO. I will be purchasing another soon--one to safely secure items in my car and another for home.
