Review: Makes pork pies like a pro - What a fantastic piece of kitchen equipment! Last year I struggled to make pork pies for Christmas by shaping hot water crust pastry over a jam jar (a maddeningly slow and frustrating process), and so thought I would try using a proper wooden 'dolly' mould this year instead. As I looked into buying a dolly I realised that it would only allow me to make one pie at a time, so I hunted around for a pie tin instead. This one does the trick PERFECTLY! It is robustly made out of heavy carbon steel and it is beautifully non-stick. Comes up a treat after washing. The removable bases make it so easy to turn out your finished pies too. It was all so easy, I got a bit carried away making different types of pork pie - made way too many so we have a stash of them in the freezer now! But as soon as we have gobbled our way through them, I'll be making more!

The tin has a lovely reassuring weight, too and doesn't feel in any way flimsy. My only comment is about the recipe as I found the quantity of pastry was not enough for 6 pies - more like 4. Plus I needed more than the stated quantity of meat in each pie. But the pies I made were delicious!

What a fantastic piece of kitchen equipment! Last year I struggled to make pork pies for Christmas by shaping hot water crust pastry over a jam jar (a maddeningly slow and frustrating process), and so thought I would try using a proper wooden 'dolly' mould this year instead. As I looked into buying a dolly I realised that it would only allow me to make one pie at a time, so I hunted around for a pie tin instead. This one does the trick PERFECTLY! It is robustly made out of heavy carbon steel and it is beautifully non-stick. Comes up a treat after washing. The removable bases make it so easy to turn out your finished pies too.
