They come with templates for getting the screws in the correct place on the wall. As someone who had never drilled a hole in the wall in her life I managed to do this with no problem using these. There is not much direct surface contact for using adhesive strips. I'm not sure that this method would give a really good permanent fix. Might work for lighter things but probably not for coats in my opinion. **Q: Can they be attached to a door?** A: We have them on the wall but would be fine on a door as will probaby easier to fix on than a wall **Q: can they hold a mug** A: They'd certainly take the weight of a mug, and the handle should fit fine in most cases on the two outer ones, but it might not work so well with the middle one (hook is feet, might slip off..)
