Braun Silk-Epil 7 7871 Wet & Dry Dual Epilator with Gillette Venus Technology

I decided just before Christmas that I was fed up with my current method of hair removal (waxing) and wanted something I had more control of. The annoying thing about waxing I found was the wait for hair to grow long enough for Holga the Hot Waxer to remove.....this meant I had really smooth legs maybe 10 days out of 30 if I was lucky and exfoliated like a mad person. I saw an ad for Braun silk-epil on TV and started researching it on Amazon. I read all the 90 odd reviews and decided to purchase.I used it for the first time today in the shower with a really good shaving cream (Lab Series, Estee Lauder's men range) and there is no way to describe how happy I am with it, and this was without the "Venus" attachment. The light feature really helps you to see stray hairs so it's a bit of a genius modification by Braun. The rubber encasement helps you to grip without slippage and it feels reassuringly sturdy in your hand. It is a bit loud but when I used it in the shower I don't think anyone heard it over the water(?)I would agree with some of the reviewers that you should not use on hair that is too long, but then that is the same with waxing, if the hair is too long it is much more painful....I think that the longer the hair remains in situ the stronger the root becomes and the more painful it is too yank out. You do have to take it nice and slow making sure you give the tweezers the chance to grip and pull out the hair, but To label Braun Sil-epil "painfree" is, I'd say, marketing and PR over-reaching but it is not painful if you use it correctly. If you have your legs waxed then this isn't much worse than that, and considering I have a "Hollywood" bikini line, this method of epilation is a walk in the park!

I've always stuck to a razor, as my one experience with waxing left my sensitive skin irritated for more than a week. Recently I have been getting fed up with ingrown hairs in the bikini area as well as unsightly pores on my legs that you get with shaving. I decided to look into epilators, and I am so glad I did!I have now used the epilator on my legs, pits, and bikini line for three successive weeks, and I'm amazed at the results. I didn't bother with the dual head thing, since I'd rather go back to tweeze hairs I've missed than have them shaved off and growing back in a few days. The light is really useful for making sure you see it if you do miss any hairs, but the tweezers are very effective and catch pretty much everything on the first pass. On first use I wasn't sure I'd keep the product - pits and bikini line were shockingly painful - but then it did such a good job on my legs (didn't hurt much there) that I decided to persevere. Three weeks in my legs are smooth and soft, the initial batch of ingrown hairs I developed in the bikini and armpit areas have mostly cleared up, and each time I epilate it hurts less. If you've never epilated or waxed and are thinking of trying this for the first time -- don't let the pain put you off. I am honestly amazed at how much the pain has reduced in only three sessions, and am so pleased I didn't give up.Worth the effort!

My first ever epilator, I have been looking at getting one for a number of years. I bought this one on the strength of other reviewers. My first time using it, I lathered up with shaving foam (a lady one!) and with gritted teeth, switched the device on, and aimed for my legs.I did have what one might describe as mini electric shocks, but I took it slowly and doing the second leg was much better. I had relaxed a bit more which of course will have helped. As I now knew what type of sensation I was to expect, the pain became less and less - even when I went under my arms.I have since used this on dry skin, and I find I just get an odd 'mini' shock, but that is it. The more I use it, the more used to it my skin gets, but with one excception. That is my bikini line. Now, that really does hurt me. I bear the pain, but I still do it, hoping that one day I will hardly feel anything when de-fuzzing that area.I do feel that I made an excellent purchase. I couldn't do without it (however much it still hurts me - down there!). I will still highly recommend it. Oh, and it charges really quickly too - but make sure you have a two pin plug to plug the charging unit into, as the unit only has the two pins which go into a bathroom shaving socket.

I'm a guy and have been going to the gym for some time now so have started to get quite toned. My partner has been talking about getting an epilator for a while and suggested she would also like to see me now with a smooth chest.I had heard about these epilators and how much pain they inflicted but thought i'd try one out as my partner had always wanted one anyway. I decided to go for a good one with the least amount of pain and came across this one. All I can say is that the pain is immense, it hurt beyond belief and you have to have a very high pain threshold, especially for the belly area.Now I understand this device is not aimed at guys and so my partner had a go trying to shave her legs, she didn't get far though as she also felt the pain was too much.We have never done this before and so this may get easier over time, but not for me. Male hair is thicker and hurts a lot more to rip out.All I can say is that if you are expecting an easy time then think again, it hurts simple as that.On a positive note which is where the 3 stars come from, the device works very well as far as removing the hairs, my belly is very good and I have thick hairs!UPDATE: I had originally given this item 3 stars due to excellent removal of hair, however after 1 day hair growth is clearly visible and my partner is scared to use it again with the pain.I really couldn't recommend this for first timers.
