However, I had to make a homemade shield to protect the very sharp bade. This up to date tool is perfect, as the blade can be retracted and safely stored after use. Really pleased as it feels good and of course, the blade is exceptionally sharp. Also it comes with 5 blades, which is a bonus because I looked at a good few items before purchasing, which didn't include any blades at all. The first review I came to with photos, is exactly the same as mine, so that was really useful to see beforehand and persuaded me to buy, so thanks for that : ) It came very well packaged and in good time. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best I’ve seen. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2018* I bought this as it is much more manageable than the iconic retractable Stanley knife. I’m not the tidiest of people, an understatement if ever there was one, and the thought of leaving an uncovered scalpel lying about scares the bejesus out of me. Hence the retractable purchase. The blades are the main selling point and while the fitting looks basic it is a clever design and holds them securely. While it is entirely possible to attach and remove a blade by hand, Swann-Morton recommend using some sort of small pliers - they are as expected wickedly sharp.The only quibble I have is that when the blade is fully extended it can move back and forward in the handle by 2mm or so. It is securely held and isn’t going to slide back into the handle unless a truly excessive amount of force is used. I might be missing something but I can’t for the life of me see why it was designed like that.Other than that minor niggle - which drives me nuts by the way - I can’t fault it.After extended use it turns out that you only extend the blade out completely when you want to change it. There’s a closer notch that keeps the blade firm and not able to be accidentally detached. So full marks after all! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great blades, okay handle. *by A***. on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 February 2019* My initial reaction after unpacking the craft knife was slight disappointment. It hasn't been painted inside the hole at the end and the paint is flaking away.After installing one of the five included blades I was again very slightly disappointed because the blade is not held 100% tight. It does rattle, but only by an infinitesimal amount. It won't affect the performance, which brings me onto the final point......It performs exceptionally, very sharp and cuts brilliantly, so much better than my old one. So far I've cut out a stencil from some card and it cuts brilliantly.If you're after a simple craft knife which you can retract and safely put in a desktop pen-pot without risk of getting pricked accidentally, this is a good choice (just remember to always retract!). It has a solid mechanism and shouldn't open accidentally.
