I finally broke down and got some heated wire to keep the pipes from freezing and needed to insulate over the top of the pipe and wire. I got the 1" set and was happy to find 3 or 4 feet of sealing tape included in the packaging (I had ordered a roll of tape separately). I assume that this was to securely seal the insulation bits end-to-end. I was also very happy to find how strong the outer silver layer was and how well all of the adhesive bits adhered. There was a lot of overlap, so several inches of extra silver material wrapped around the black foam insulation. Then I put straight pieces between them. Afterwards I followed up by using insulation tape on b the insulation joints for full coverage.
