The larger size protects me from the rain better than smaller arc umbrellas. It's easy to open, but closing it for me is somewhat difficult. Once the button is pushed to close it, it pops closed very well. But my trouble comes with pushing the folded canopy back down into the locked position. That is very hard to do, and I always have to put the handle against my leg or belly, and then really push the canopy part in to lock it closed. But so far, that is my only issue with it. The color is pretty, it fits into my backpack side pocket, and protects from the rain very well. I have not used ut in extremely heavy winds, but it has held up in the winds it has experienced so far. I just angle it into the wind and not against it, whenever possible. Overall, I do recommend this umbrella. Just be aware that it may be hard to close when you're finished using it. It is heavier than I anticipated, but evidence of its good construction and materials. I bought the 54" in light blue. I read the instructions, tried the automatic open and close function in the house first. Practiced compacting it, before heading out into the downpour. It was raining so hard, I was overanxious to raise the umbrella, so I must have pressed the raise/lower button twice. It collapsed almost as soon as I raised it! Didn't realize my mistake until I got to the car, thinking it was faulty perhaps. Nope. My fault. Unless you fully compact it after lowering it, (as illustrated in the instructions) the umbrella will not reopen. Now that I understand that function, I am happy with it. It's very sturdy, worth the money. Still a bit heavy for me, but I like it anyway.
