It's a manly beast. This thing was made back when laptops were built like brick shi ....well, you get the idea. What's so cool about "This Old Dell" is you can get under the hood and "hot rod" it a bit ...fer cheap. Max out the RAM, stick in a new CPU ...lotsa stuff. One of the obvious things I needed to improve on was the WiFi card; the original card offered up transfer rates at the heady speed of 54Mbs. I think I could improve on that.Enter the AC600 Mini Wireless Network WiFi Dongle. This dongle is not like the tiny little dongles you find that just about disappear in their USB ports. No sir. This is a big dongle. Standing out and proud from the side of my beastly laptop. So why did I choose this impressive dongle? I noticed there were a lot of comments from owners of lesser dongles complaining that, when push got to shove, their teensy dongles, with their "nano technology" ...fried themselves and failed to satisfy.Size matters; I was not about to put anything on my manly Dell that had "nano" in any part of its description. No sir. I wanted effective and big. This dongle is made for the long haul, for the heavy load and to stand strong. Unlike the wimpy "nanos" this dongle is equipped with "cooling ports". Yes, it can go the extra mile, take a lickin' and keep on tickin' and not go limp when it counts because ...it is air cooled.Through the magic of convection, cool air is drawn in through the ten, ample-sized, cooling ports on the bottom of the dongle and hot air escapes through slots integral to the oversize USB male plug. A small LED on top lets you know this dongle is workin' hard. And performance? Night and day different.Don't be caught with "nano technology" on your laptop. Go big, go strong, or go home.Okay, sorry, I couldn't help myself. This is a great device, highly recommend. It comes with a mini CD with the drivers and software ...that's how I installed mine as the Dell has a CD drive. Follow the instructions. My install went without a hitch. Oddly, the software and drivers are Realtek. And while I may have engaged in a little tongue in cheek, the overheating issue seemed to plague a lot of the smaller nano tech dongles reading reviews. This one does have air flow through it to some degree. Not the smallest but it works.; big improvement over the old WiFi card. At 15 bucks a no brainer. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It really works! *by S***G on November 28, 2018* My wife's HP laptop had already had the wireless card replaced under warranty and was, once again, dropping the home network constantly. I was glad to hear from a local tech that a USB wireless adapter might do the trick. I researched the dozens available. I was willing to pay a little more than the cheaper models to get: dual band capability, decent throughput numbers, a device that didn't stick out too far and be a risk for being broken off, and a 100% stable network connection to our Netgear Nighthawk X6 wireless router on a different level in our home. It achieved all goals.The photo shows how far it sticks out next to the USB wireless mouse adapter.The installation directions were a little vague, suggesting it would be automatically recognized by Windows 10. It wasn't. The HP has an optical drive so I used the install disc, which was reasonably straight-forward. Therefore, I can't vouch for how the installation would go downloading the driver online, if you don't have a CD/DVD drive.I gave 4 stars for ease of installation because it took a little longer than I expected. 4 stars for durability because it's been in service for such a short period and is too soon to tell. 5 stars for value because it does what it says it will do!Inamax Direct shipped it immediately and it arrived in perfect condition. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again. 100% satisfied with seller and adapter. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Actually a pretty great little adapter *by K***D on April 7, 2021* Let me start by saying, I prefer wired connections for my internet and at this price point I honestly wasn't expecting much.I was very happily surprised.I had originally purchased this WiFi adapter to run on a mining setup, but the OS I was using didn't seem to recognize it. Since 8 had somehow used my last eternity cord I decided to try it in my Windows machine and it worked fantastic while I picked up a replacement ethernet cable. I was originally planning to return it since it did not work for the machine I had intended to use it on, but for the price and how well it worked I decided to keep it around as a backup.As a side note, the seller also contacted me to make sure everything was good with the adapter.
