Yes they are built to a price, but I've been wearing them for casual walking around for 3 months and I can only say for the money these are brilliant, the fit is nice and wide, they are super comfortable, the bed is a bit thin but it doesn't affect the comfort for me. They're not showing signs of wear, I've got them soaking and they didn't leak. For low level path walking these are ideal. If they fell apart tomorrow I'd buy another pair which says it all. I don't ever deliberately stand in water, or wade through Lake District bogs, but from my experience of *rain* I've certainly not got wet feet whilst wearing these in, I'm going to say, certainly the first two years of wearing them. Like all this type of construction where, in very simple terms, you have an inner and an outer shell, but in-between the two is a sort of 'plastic bag sewn in, they *are* waterproof for a period of time, but eventually the creasing and uncreasing of that (unseen) 'plastic bag' can (but not always) cause a breach. You can buy a rubbish pair of shoes for 15 - 20Β£, they'll be rubbish when you buy them and they'll be rubbish all the way until you give up on them 6-months to 1year later, and you'll likely have uncomfortable feet for this period of time too. I keep buying them because they give me excellent service, comfort and value. I walk 15,000-20,000 steps a day in them, across all terrains, and they are the best I've ever owned. **Q: Are they good for walking in streets too or just nature walks?** A: Yes they are fine. Walking on the beach after the tide has gone out perfect. **Q: Are they ok for broad feet** A: I would say NO and advise you to look for H Fitting shoes/boots or at least items that actually do state BROAD FITTING. Also, I would advise a plain front to the shoe, highly rounded with no stitching at the sides, no bumper guards or panels - nothing that can stop your feet from spreading whilst walking etc. To avoid metatarsal problems it is advised (sounds silly but it's not) to have a sole plate that does NOT flex easily, in other words if you can flex the shoe in half don't buy it. Try to find a shop that specializes in serious walking, climbing, trekking shoes and boots and listen to their advice. Also, buy the proper after care products too and write down any instructions about drying, polishing, cleaning, waxing, dubbin-ing etc. Make sure there's enough room inside the shoe/boot for 2 pairs of socks and also for any orthopaedic inserts that you may wish to add at a later date. Unless you pay more than Β£125 for a pair they may only last 1-2 years whereas the more expensive ones may last 5-6 years. However, if you don't keep on top of waterproofing most boots will leak after only a few months.
