## Questions & Answers

**Q: can it be used for butter slime**
A: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

**Q: How long does the clay take to dry?**
A: For big projects, such as those that take a kilo or more of clay, it will take up to a week to dry completely, make sure you leave lots of time for projects...

**Q: does it dry lighter in weight than when you work it? And is it waterproof when dry?**
A: It isn't waterproof and, in fact, will soften if left in water. This can be a good thing if you have clay that's dried out before you've used it as you can leave it in a container of water (overnight) and it will become workable again. Also, you can mix some clay with water until creamy to give you 'slip' which is a kind of glue for joining two pieces of clay together (but not dried clay pieces, I imagine). Finished sculptures can be waterproofed to some degree with varnishes - I'm not an expert on these. In addition to this, I've heard that you can apply a mix of PVA glue and water to a finished sculpture as this strengthens the clay and makes it more resistant to knocks. Dried clay can be quite fragile.

**Q: was wondering can this be used once dry in an aquarium?**
A: No definately not.....when it absorbs water it becomes unstable and releases toxins into the water...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Resident Craft Sessions – Easy to Work With and Gentle on Hands
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 29 September 2026*

Great for Resident Craft Sessions – Easy to Work With and Gentle on HandsI regularly purchase arts and crafts supplies for activities with my residents, and DAS Air-Drying Clay has quickly become a staple for our creative sessions. It provides an excellent, low-mess alternative to traditional kiln-baked clay. Here is how it holds up from a resident care and activity perspective:• Texture & Ease of Use: The clay is incredibly soft and pliable straight out of the packet. It requires very little hand strength to manipulate, making it perfect for older adults or individuals with limited dexterity or arthritis. It doesn't dry out too quickly while being worked on, allowing residents to take their time.• Sensory Experience: It has a smooth texture that isn't overly sticky or greasy. It washes off hands and table protectors easily with just warm water, which keeps clean-up stress-free.• Drying & Painting: True to its description, it dries thoroughly at room temperature over 24 to 48 hours without cracking. Once fully dry, the surface takes acrylic paints and water-based markers beautifully without absorbing all the pigment.Tip for Activities: If you have leftovers, wrap the remaining block tightly in cling film and store it in an airtight container to keep it fresh for your next session.Highly recommended for hobbyists, community groups, and care settings!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Clay
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 12 March 2026*

Works like magic... I bought this after some clay projects of mine using a different clay crumbled and cracked. The pieces I build are all highly detailed and prone to breakage so require a good clay. I bought this in the hopes of rebuilding them and smoothing the cracks... It was certainly worth it, it dried very quickly, is strong, and has saved multiple projects, they went from crumbling messes to strong sculptures that are now ready to paint within a matter of hours plus the new models I have built from it have not cracked at all. It's a little denser and harder to mold than your average air dry clay and I don't know what it's made of, it's not quite so easy to work with, though still soft enough to be malleable it requires a little patience, but whatever this formula is - it's another breed of clay entirely!!!One benefit over other clays is that once it is dry you can file, sand and drill it. You can also wet it again and smooth over with your finger to get a smooth surface. I found painting on a watered down layer of PVA helped to seal the surface, so it would take paint a lot better. It does take a while to dry if you make thicker objects. Around 24h per CM of thickness according to some hobby sites and I'd say that was correct. Thicker projects will feel spongy and smooth after 24h and 48h it'll feel fully dry and hard, but the inside will still be soft and handling too roughly will crack the outer layer as I found out the hard way. Give it longer to be safe. If you do break it, you can mend it using some watered down clay to make a slurry and use it like a glue. Adding more clay after it has dried can also be done using the slurry, or just wetting the surface until it becomes sticky, then new clay will stick to it.Very happy with this Clay

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My favourite clay to work with
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 21 October 2026*

Honestly my favourite clay to work with particularly because it doesn’t dry out my hands! It’s less messy than other air dry clays I’ve used and also less prone to breaking or cracking in my experience - it’s durable but not heavy. I think the texture is also better than others at similar price points - it’s easier to mould and shape which makes it more fun and satisfying to use.It does take a while to dry as with all air dry clay, but no slower than other brands - I find drying it on untreated wooden boards speeds up the process a bit.I have used it to make board game pieces in various different shapes, painting and varnishing. The white colour is perfect for that as you can paint directly on once it’s dry.
