Laurel (Bay Leaf Extract) 3 Pack Aleppo was home to some of the finest Olive Oil Soap producers in Syria. These wonderful soaps are still made using ancient techniques, with no animal fats or nasty chemicals and only 100% natural ingredients. The traditional soap blocks are hand cut & stamped, then aged to form a deep golden crust with an olive green centre. Note: Our new stocks may differ slightly in shape and colour from the image. How is Aleppo Soap made? In a skilled process, olive oil is converted to soap (saponified) and then bay leaf extract (laurel) is added and the product is spread out to solidify before being cut by hand into rectangular bars and individually stamped. The bars are then dried in huge aerated stacks for several months after production and the outer surface of the olive green soap goes a gentle brown through oxidation. I have used Aleppo Gold for the past 3 years after buying some in Syria. It is the most amazing soap - in Syria the girls wash their hair in it and the men shave with it as well as showering/washing with it. Skin feels good after using it and it softens and moisturises. Just hope it will remain available as the major "soap house "in Aleppo has allegedly been bombed. This soap has been made for over 700 years and the same family has made it. It genuinely is pure - I have been round the Soap House and seen the various stages of saponification.

The three soaps I got have an unpleasant smell, not as earthy and flowery as other aleppo soaps I've tried. The soap still leaves the skin nice and soft, so two stars. I wouldn't recommend buying them.
