I mixed up a spray bottle (before reading that you must use a foaming soap dispenser) with a mix of 1 part soap to 10 parts water, I thought it would be a real test to clean my greasy sink, usually I scrub it with Vim and it is a chore I hate, but a little of the mix on a dish cloth and the grease just wiped away, I couldn't believe my eyes, so easy. Then I cleaned my taps......all the stains and water marks just vanished, and those taps were so bad I was thinking of buying new ones. I spent the rest of the day going back to admire my sparkling sink. This soap is wonderful, I use it to clean everything and can now empty my crowded under sink cupboards of the multitude of cleaning and anti-bacterial sprays (Dr Bronner's soap kills 99% of germs). The Lavender is divine, I can't wait to try the others. It is gentle to the skin, washing with it or washing the dishes doesn't leave you reaching for the moisturisers. I have used it as a spot cleaner on the laundry (I use an eco egg, no detergent) it worked better than the purpose cleaner from supermarket - removing lipstick stains which the named brand didn't. I use it to clean all surfaces in kitchen and bathroom, and on me in the shower. I haven't yet tried it as a shampoo, if you do then I think a rinse with vinegar or lemon juice would be needed, I can remember my mother always doing this pre-commercial shampoo. During soap making, they're combined with a fat and water. One is used depending on if the result will be a liquid soap (KOH) or solid (NaOH). Soap can't be made without saponification which is kicked off through the chemical reaction with water and fat plus either KOH or NaOH. You'd just have a mucky, gooey mess that is ineffective. Saponification is basically the process where the ester bond of a triglyceride is cleaved. It leaves behind soap (fatty acids) and glycerol. **Q: what scent should i get if i have never used this product before?** A: Other than unscented, Almond is probably the "friendliest". It's a warm and pleasant scent. All of the varieties are great but they are definitely not subtle. The peppermint can really be intense if you're not used to it. Keep in mind this is real soap, made the real way. If you get it in your eyes it's going to sting! If you get the peppermint in your eyes it's going to sting a LOT. **Q: I see lots of notes about moisturizing, but nothing about actually cleansing. Is this anti-bacterial?** A: You dont need an antibacterial soap to cleanse your body. Anti bacterial soaps actually cause more harm than good because they wipe out all bacteria (good and bad) and disrupt gut flora which causes a host of other issues.
