Grab bar shall have 18-gauge (1.2mm) wall thickness and 1-1/2" (38mm) outside diameter. Clearance between the grab bar and wall shall be 1-1/2" (38mm). Concealed mounting flanges shall be 1/8" (3mm) thick stainless steel plate, 2" by 3-1/8" (50 by 80mm), and equipped with two screw holes for attachment to wall. Flange covers shall be 22 gauge (0.8mm), 3-1/4" (85mm) diameter by 1/2" (13mm) deep, and shall snap over mounting flange to conceal mounting screws and/or WingIt fasteners. They have made their reputation by providing strength and beauty at an affordable price. This bar is no exception. I chose this length to install in a shower 4' wide and 6' long. I built this room for my Wife who has Alzheimer's Disease and requires a large enough space to allow a home health aide to assist her. My goal is to keep her in our home as her condition declines. From my experience with Bobrick products I knew they would provide a high standard product that would serve for decades. Keeping a shower clean is a priority. I chose the Satin finish as it is a good and durable finish which does not require much in the way of cleaning. As people age they increasingly rely on their ability to grip something to steady them. The Satin finish provides a high degree of friction. The construction details of this bar are exceptional. The bends in the tubing are uniform without any distortion or wrinkling of the steel. The escutcheons are tight fitting and have the same Satin finish. The unit comes with Stainless Steel screws which were long enough to penetrate 1/2" of cultured marble and 1/2" of cement backerboard and provide more than an inch of penetration into the wood blocking we installed between the studs. I weigh 200 pounds and when testing this bar, I was impressed that nothing moved as I put my weight to it. The importance of solid blocking cannot be minimized. The bar itself is capable of supporting much more than my weight. The screws are large diameter and will not snap off when subjected to stress. I highly recommend this product.
