It took less than 30 seconds to pry off the old chrome ring, replace the ball, and put the new one in. Now my BlackBerry feels like new again.HOWEVER - while I was waiting for the replacement trackball, I figured out how to fully clean my existing trackball:Part I1. pry off the "chrome" colored ring with your fingernail2. pull out your existing trackball3. get a single staple out of a stapler, and straighten one end so that the staple is in the shape of the letter "L"4. flip the trackball over5. *GENTLY* pry up the metal flap on the back. Your trackball is probably full of pocket lint. Use the L-shaped staple to gently tease the lint out.6. Reassemble your BlackBerry. Trackball performance should be much better. If not, go to Part IIPart II1. remove your trackball again2. do this on a large, flat surface. you will be working with four small round parts that can be lost easily3. use your staple or a push-pin to *GENTLY* pry the four tabs of the metal retaining bracket off the plastic trackball holder. work slowly and carefully, don't bend anything!4. as you take off the bracket, notice that there are four white rollers with black plastic ends5. if part I didn't fix your trackball, your rollers are probably clogged up with pocket lint6. now that you've pulled the metal bracket back off, you can use a staple or push pin to carefully pull off the lint that is thickly matted to the rollers7. once they are clean, place the rollers back in the plastic frame8. put the ball back in place9. snap the metal retaining bracket back on10. drop your trackball back into your blackberry, and replace the ring.If part I and II didn't fix your trackball, order a new one :) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good, But Shipping Was Expensive and Slow *by R***N on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on May 12, 2010* I bought five of these and had no trouble installing one of them on my Blackberry 8830 World Edition the moment the package arrived, completing work in under 5 minutes. The new trackball works very nicely. It feels like it has a lighter "touch" than my original equipment trackball, which it replaces. Scrolling is much easier now. This may also be because there was quite a lot of lint and crud collected under the old trackball when I pried it off the Blackberry. I cleaned this out and then installed the new trackball. So I am very pleased with this product.The down side of the order is that shipping charges were unnecessarily expensive, a little over $14. I think a reasonable charge for the shipping bag, packing material, and postage would be approximately $6.00. And the package took a long time to get to me -- some days, much longer than it should have from California to Maryland. Apparently the seller has an arrangement with a commercial shipper who actually prepares the package for mailing through the United States Postal System. But it was very slow. This greatly annoyed me because my original trackball would not work, rendering the Blackberry useless, and I really felt stranded without the device and connectivity with my own customers. I think the shipping charge is so high that the seller is trying to make a few more dollars from the transaction.The unit cost of the item itself is very reasonable which is why I bought 5 trackballs. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Bad turned Great *by R***Z on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on December 5, 2011* After reading the reviews and some mentioning sticky/poor roller action I bought 3 assuming one would be great. Not a single one was good, all sticky/jerky. My old one was better. Being 3 with shipping was so cheap I wasn't going to bother sending them back. But, I did write the seller and expressed same feelings and summed up "just letting you know they are sub par". Within hours they wrote me apologizing and offered to send 3 replacements and not to worry about sending anything back. Again, within hours they wrote back stating they'd ship ASAP. By the next day I had shipping confirmation. When they arrived I open one package and placed it in the phone and WHAM! Excellent movement, snappier, smoother and more sensitive than the original had ever been.Their service is top notch, it's better to know when things go wrong a company makes it right and then some. Which they did, they really have no way of knowing or inspecting these items as the packages are sealed. As for the product when they are bad, they are bad.. when they aren't they are excellent! I went with these because the description states they are Blackberry items vs a third party.I averaged the stars.
