To actually stop virus micron size you will either have to invest in a professionally fitted N95 and strictly follow the wearing protocol or to purchase a professionally rated respirator that guarantees to filter micron size of 0.01 or under (such as what virologists use in labs). Do not forget that viruses enter thru mucous membranes and so eye protection (such as goggles) will also be a MUST if you want to be truly protected from anything with a virus micron size. Hope this helps! **Q: It says it's 1/4 inch thick in the picture and 1/16 in thick in the description, which is it?** A: 1/16th, but can be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled, etc., in thickness. **Q: Can this be put inside the air opening of a window AC unit to block out the light that comes through the vent?** A: I would rate its opacity to approx. 70%-80% (when clean and new). Remember, this is designed to trap small dust particles. As it does its job, it will become more opaque as well as not pass air efficiently. **Q: Can i wash it?** A: I don't know the answer for his particular filter material, but washing was not recommended for other carbon filter pads I used in the past. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reduce 90% of the smoke *by L***G on January 13, 2026* Living in a condo with a range hood that can't vent outside used to be a real nightmare – even frying eggs would fumigate the whole apartment! Highly recommend ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great enhancement for exhaust fans. *by K***R on June 2, 2026* Great product for my under the micowave exhaust fan. Now it removes odors where before it removed steam. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value and versatility *by D***N on October 5, 2026* Got this filter pad to add an extra layer of odor filtration for my range hood intake. I deceided to not vent the hood outside and run it on recirculation mode so I wanted to enhance the filtration of the unit. I cut this mat to fit the size directedly above my grease baffles. The material cuts easy and is thin enough to fit tightly behind the baffles while still letting them properly sit in place. After install, there was no noticeable reduction in airflow. I am adding another piece of activated carbon on the actual fan intake as well. Once that is is all in I will update on any impact on cooking odor reduction.
