I have used vegetable oil to remove adhesives when gentle is a must...( mineral oil also)...but they must not be on certain surfaces where color darkening might occur... Try a mosquito repellent wipe or spray onto a cloth and it is phenominal for tough jobs...(though it might be chemically harsh for your situation...)
