It works for him but is close. The ear plugs cut the noise out for the most part. But I have to turn the volume way up on the TV to hear it with the ear plugs in. I do not think it is any nosier than any other machines I have used. I use to use one at the gym and it was nosier than this one. I do really like the machine and for the price it is well worth it.
