I use the straight to clip leaves off in the flower but I think it’s just a preference hope this helps. 🤘🏼 **Q: How long are the blades?** A: About 2 1/8 inches with the shears closed. When open the tips are 1 1/4 inch apart and 1 11/16 inch from inside where the blades cross to to the tip of each blade. Tip of blades are about 1/32" and where they cross they are 3/8" wide. I like these even better than the Fiscars. **Q: Can these be used to comfortably cut through 1/4 inch woody stems?** A: For trimming yes they're amazing. They come in a three-pack which is pretty convenient since you can keep one pair by your computer for opening boxes and stuff. Speaking of keeping them everywhere, they're light enough to carry around without being too heavy or bulky. The blades are curved which makes it easy to get into tight spots and make precise cuts, and the spring-loaded action means less hand fatigue when you're using them for a long time. I can see why people with arthritis would like these snips. I really don't have any complaints about these shears. The locking mechanism is simple and effective, and they seem pretty durable. They do their job well, whether I'm trimming my bonsai or cutting open some packaging. Plus, they look nice too - not that looks matter much for gardening tools (but it's a bonus anyway). All in all, these are great quality snips at a reasonable price.
