If you are on a budget, I recommend picking up a few 12x12 peel and stick backsplash glass mosaic tiles, cut them into 3” horizontal pieces and install them over the hole and the entire length of your shower (a horizontal decorative strip). Assuming you have a standard size 30x60x30 shower/bath combo, you can probably get away with buying three of them and for around $5 each at HD (or search here on Amazon). Personally, I would add adhesive or epoxy behind them due to the exposure to water. Might just be a temporary fix, but a whole lot cheaper than replacing a fiberglass insert. I had huge horrible rust near the drain on the tub in the house we bought and it fill in that rust after I scraped out as much rust as possible. Then filled & painted with white. We ended up getting the entire tub and surrounding tiles resurfaced & that company went over that area of the tub in the long run. They did say my "repair" was done well, but they went over the entire tub when everything was resurfaced. Covers nicely!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quick, easy, decent results *by E***A on April 22, 2019* I used this to repair two chips on a porcelain bathtub. Both were all the way through to the metal so there was rust that had to be cleaned off first. I used vinegar and salt to clean off as much of the rust as I could, then went over it with a little piece of 320 grit emery paper. Next I mixed the touch up kit and applied it with the supplied brush. The brush is small enough that you can precisely match the edges of the patch to the edges of the chip. However, it holds a surprising amount of the compound so (just like with paint) you have to be careful not to load up it up too much. The compound has approximately the same viscosity as correction fluid and I'm guessing would be difficult to use on anything other than a horizontal surface. Fortunately both of my chips were on the flat ledge surrounding the tub. After applying the compound I allowed three full days for it to cure before exposing the repairs to water. The cured product has a smooth finish, similar to the porcelain itself, although it is raised slightly above the surrounding surface. I suppose if you were really OCD you could do some wet sanding to achieve a perfectly level surface, but I didn't bother with this. So far the repairs have survived two long, hot showers and seem to be holding up well. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is that the color match is not perfect; the compound is somewhat whiter than standard bathtub porcelain. But unless you look closely, it does not jump out at you.
