It is not thick and I did not want thick as I did not want to catch my foot on the edge of the rug and trip. My goal was to protect my hard wood floors. It is made well, very tightly made and it is very evenly squared. I needed 8x10 and this is 9x 12 but that was much easier to line the rug up on and just cut off the two sides. It cut very easy with regular scissors.
