Review: Good replacement for Bosch OTR Microwave - Our Bosch HMV3053U Over-The-Range Microwave stopped working so we decided to upgrade to a stand alone range hood and a separate counter top Panasonic microwave. Installation: The range hood is fairly straight forward to install but it requires at least two people to lift and install it. It would really be helpful if it has a paper template to help you drill the mounting holes. We had to cut a piece of cardboard to turn it into a makeshift template. If you are replacing an existing OTR microwave like us, you would likely have a 3.25'' X 10'' rectangular vent duct in your cabinet. It's highly recommended to replace the 3.25'' × 10'' stack boot with a straight 6" coupler. The range hood will have better flow and lower noise. If you decide to use the 3.25'' X 10'' rectangular vent then you'll have to remove the "air duct tongue" per user manual. If not then you'll run into severe air restriction and noise issues. Performance and noise: We are fairly impressed by the suction power and how quiet it is. I believe people that complains about the noise and performance likely installed it wrong because they forgot to remove the "air duct tongue" during installation (see previous section). The actual air flow is closer to 400-450 CFM. I will relay this to our team. Model UC-PS38 Pro has a CFM of 950. **Q: Is it more noisy if the duct is adapted to a 4 inch?** A: I doubt you will get answer to that since I doubt anyone would try it at all. You need a 6 inch duct to actually get the 950 CFM benefit. You may as well just buy a lower CFM brand/model using 4 inch duct. **Q: What's the exhaust duct size?** A: The hood is equipped with a 6" duct attachment. I would only suggest going bigger should you have a long run and /or many 45 degree turns. I used 8" duct with an adapter on the hood outlet for an eight foot run with three elbows. These are crappy plastic and will 100 percent fail. There is absolutely no reason for them. I removed these and the unit worked properly. Changing rating from 1 star to 4. Good hood as long as it is working. Have not used cleaning function yet. I originally bought this hood vent fan in November 4th, 2021. The package arrive and was quite large and heavy, usually a good sign in kitchen equipment meant for heavy duty usage. Once we unpacked the hood and plugged it in, there was an awful noise. I emailed the Hauslane team and they told me that this was caused by the fan being jostled during shipping and that there was a way to fix this. They sent me a series of picture showing how to disassemble the hood to reach the fans on the inside. I was then instructed to loosen a nut on the fan and adjust the position of the fan until it didn't scrape the housing. both myself and my father-in-law tried adjusting the fan to no avail. No matter how wee moved it, it was coming in contact with the housing and making an awful noise. We initiated a return on the unit and sent it back. Upon receiving the new unit, I first plugged it in and tried it out to make sure we weren't facing the same issue. There was no noise and it seemed to be working as it should. We installed the unit, which is quite an undertaking and requires pieces of plywood, cabinet jacks and the ability to contort ones body. I used it the first night following the installation and it seemed to work great. I was boiling corned beef and making a soup for a Reuben dinner for my pregnant wife. When I turned the fan down from the highest speed to the third level, there was a loud noise and then both fans were rubbing against the housing and making the same noise as original unit. I disassembled the unit to access the fans and try to adjust their positioning by loosening the nut as they had suggested for the first fan. Regardless of how I positioned the fans, they continued to scrape the housing and make an awful noise. I am left with an installed hood vent that is rendered useless. I have reached out to Hauslane for help to solve this issue but as of yet have not received any response. I will update this review if and when they respond to my e-mail. I cannot and would not recommend this product at this time. While it worked well for the time It was working, the headaches involved in re-packing the original unit and sending it back, installing the second unit only to have it fail with the exact same issue, are not worth it.
