After you put your clothes in, zip the main zipper and then the other zipper to compress it down.I compared them to an Eagle Creek version that I have. These bags seem a little sturdier than the Eagle Creek, and they are double the weight (which is negligible, really). They are less expensive than the Eagle Creek and seem just as good.
