Review: Great value for great blanket - This blanket is a perfect size to use around the house, in the car, camping, wherever. It's big enough for one person to wrap up completely or two people to share over top. It has a good feel, nice and soft and heavy. When I first opened the package it did have a very strong diesel-like aroma. I know that's just the strong smell of lanolin and how my nose interprets it, but it is pretty powerful. After a gentle wash, the smell was mostly gone and it now just smells like a wool blanket. The color is a rich burnt orange that I love (less bright/vibrant than the pictures in the listing). This is not a $500 artisanal wool blanket but for the price you're getting a great wool blanket for a good value. I've seen some "wool" blankets in stores that are 90+ percent synthetic with some tiny fraction of wool for the same price or even more. This is the way to go. I'm ordering another one in a different color based on my experience so far. By the time I'm done I'll probably have one for everyone in the family. Update: bought the blue version. It had almost no smell at all but felt just as substantial. Washed and dried and it is comfy and warm. Also used some webbing and buckles I had to make a blanket roll/carrier for each. If Arcturus is reading these reviews I wish they did a bundled version that included one for a reasonable price instead of as a separate item.
Review: Excellent value. Read my review... - This is the 4th Arcturus blanket I have purchased. They have other styles, but "Military" is my favorite. I have ordered a number of other "Military" style blankets here on desertcart. I have found them to be thin, usually with a somewhat loose weave. They tend to produce a lot of lint, smell like some sort of petroleum product, and have bits of obvious plastic (or some other large synthetic fiber) woven in. Arcturus is different. They are dense with a tight weave and do not produce lint (I haven't tried washing them yet, but even then, I expect them to hold up well) They do have a mild odor when you first open them, but it disappears quickly. The 20% "other fibers" in the "Military" style are not noticeable. I am very comfortable sleeping with these blankets. One will keep you warm most nights. On really cold nights, I use two and usually have to turn one of them down half way because I get too hot. (your mileage may vary...) These are slightly more expensive to purchase than others advertised on desertcart, but a cheap blanket that is disgusting and does not keep you warm is no bargain. Give these a try. I think you will like them.

**Q: How do you get rid of that nasty smell. I have washed it four times and let it soak in white vinegar wash and I can still smells horrible**
A: ALL my merino wool clothes smell horrible while washing but it goes away after drying. It's a natural animal hair and the smell should be expected unless clothing had been treated by manufacturer. It will eventually go away after hanging in the fresh air outside a few times. Hope this helps a little.

**Q: Does this blanket have a fire retardant on it?**
A: Seller claims it's "fire retardant", which is probably just probably just a misunderstanding by the seller. Fire retardant in terms of this blanket would mean the material that would otherwise catch on fire (and melt onto your skin), has had its fibers treated chemically to be self-extinguishing. Whereas "fire resistant" in terms of cloth or this blanket means that it resists catching on fire (naturally self-extinguishes) to begin with, as in the case of wool.

**Q: Does the manufacturer state that there is no fire retardant chemical added during the manufacturing process?**
A: That’s correct. We’ve checked several times with our manufacturer and they continually confirm they don’t add any fire retardant to the blankets. Thanks for checking!

**Q: What are the dimensions of this blanket after it has been washed?**
A: As long as you don't machine dry the blanket (which we don't recommend with ANY wool products), the dimensions will remain relatively similar to how it is when purchased. Thanks for checking us out!

This blanket is a perfect size to use around the house, in the car, camping, wherever. It's big enough for one person to wrap up completely or two people to share over top. It has a good feel, nice and soft and heavy. When I first opened the package it did have a very strong diesel-like aroma. This is the 4th Arcturus blanket I have purchased. They have other styles, but "Military" is my favorite. I have ordered a number of other "Military" style blankets here on Amazon. I have found them to be thin, usually with a somewhat loose weave. They tend to produce a lot of lint, smell like some sort of petroleum product, and have bits of obvious plastic (or some other large synthetic fiber) woven in. Arcturus is different. They are dense with a tight weave and do not produce lint (I haven't tried washing them yet, but even then, I expect them to hold up well) They do have a mild odor when you first open them, but it disappears quickly. I'm very satisfied with this blanket. It's softer than I'd expected, sturdy (so far), and is giving just the right warmth for summertime nights when a sheet alone isn't enough. Some of the earlier reviews noted a strong and unpleasant odor. Mine smelled of "wool blanket." It wasn't too strong for me and it faded considerably in just a few days. I hope the diminished scent sticks around - I like it! Other reviews were critical of the weight (thickness) of the blanket. I'd describe it as not super heavy, yet definitely not, as one review put it, almost as thin as a bedsheet. Notes: Manufacturers change their products from time to time, so what I got is not necessarily what earlier reviewers got or you would get. Also, I have yet to wash this blanket, so I don't have anything to say about how that goes.
