However, if you are truly trying to whiten a coat before a show or because it is stained, I would recommend using the product without diluting. I put it on fairly heavily and then leave it on for several minutes. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. It is not a bleach, so it is ok if it touches other colors. Cavaliers have both dark and white colors in their coats. I try to use a regular shampoo for the dark parts, but do not worry if this runs over from their white. This is a nice product that does it's job. Review: Excellent for bleaching white dog hair - If you have a dog with white hair that gets stained, this is the product for you. I purchased mine for the first time about 5 years ago. It actually bleaches the white hair after 3 minutes which it is then promptly rinsed very well (see directions on the bottle).
