## Overview

The Tekonsha 6562 7-Way Blade Tester and Trailer Emulator is a compact, plug-and-play diagnostic tool designed for professional-grade brake control installation and testing. Featuring a built-in LED display, it verifies all trailer light and brake functions while simulating electric brake load, enabling precise brake controller calibration without the need for a trailer. Compatible with major brake controllers including Tekonsha, Draw-Tite, and select OEM models, this lightweight device is essential for any serious tow vehicle technician or enthusiast.

## Description

The Tekonsha 7 Way Blade Tester and Trailer Emulator is used for the proper installation and set-up of a brake control when a trailer is not readily available. Brake control set-up is accomplished using a built-in load module that will simulate electric magnet brakes on a trailer. (The emulator will also check electrical continuity of all circuits in the 7-Way blade style connector.) Built-in, red LED lights illuminate to show each function is working, including stop, turn, reverse, tail light, electric brake, and auxiliary power functions. The Tekonsha trailer emulator simulates load of electric brakes, making it ideal for setting up brake controls without a trailer. Trailer light tester plugs into 7-way RV-style flat blade socket on tow vehicle. Compatible with Tekonsha, Draw-Tite, and select brake controllers, including 2013 and older Ford OEM brake controllers.

    Good not great

Works, LEDs are not very bright which makes it hard to view in any amount of daylight.

OK for Tekonsha stuff, but won't test GM's "ITBC" controller

*by L***. on Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2014*

This tester works great for testing my Tekonsha P2, but when I used it to test my 2012 Avalanche with GM's Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC) it did not work. The Avalanche ITBC system responded to this thing as if there were no electric brakes connected, instead of immediately presenting the "Trailer Connected" message. I would have rated this product with five stars had the verbiage in the Amazon description been a little more forthcoming on the incompatibility with the GM OEM braking system. In case anybody is wondering (since I had to figure this out through trial and error) the GM ITBC is looking for a significant current draw and was finally happy when I connected a 12VDC hand-held spot light (the kind sold by auto-parts stores with cigarette lighter plugs). Do not use a low-current (< ~2 amps) lamps. The spot light hack that is necessary for the GM ITBC WILL NOT WORK for testing the Tekonsha aftermarket EBCs, because their circuitry is offended by the extremely low resistance (i.e. nearly dead short) of an unlit lamp filament and thus they will indicate a short-circuit at the control head. Bottom line, if you need to test your 7-way Tow Vehicle trailer outlet and you have a Tekonsha aftermarket Electric Brake Controller, you will need this device. If you are testing a vehicle with other than the Tekonsha aftermarket controllers, a "no joy" indication on this device DOES NOT necessarily mean your vehicle's brake controller is kaput.

Works with a 2012 Ford F250 6.7l turbo diesel with integrated brake controller(OEM)

*by G***H on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2015*

2012 Ford F250 6.7l turbo diesel. My Brakes and manual override brakes on RV are not working, but everything else does seem to work on the RV 5th wheel. I got my tester today and it confirmed my manual test I did yesterday with a dc light probe and multimeter, probably took 15 minutes to do. I do get the voltage change when I manually squeeze the brake controller in the truck from zero to 12 volts(using a light and multimeter in conjunction with each other). The issue appears to be with my RV and not my Ford integrated brake controller. Doing the test with a multimeter and a probe takes a some time and is a pain, but it will give you the volts, which is important to know. This tester will NOT tell you the volts, but the led light does get brighter the harder you press. You can also see the led brake light come on when you press the brake pedal. It you push it hard, you will see the led get brighter as well. From my understanding, you can't test this well unless the vehicle is moving more than 11 mph, since the trailer brakes will not activate under 11mph. This tester makes it very easy to do a quick semi detailed test. I think I have a bad ground on my Trailer. Still need to figure that out. This probe will NOT help with any issues with your trailer wiring...stating the obvious. It will just give you piece of mind that everything on your tow vehicle works/does not work. I keep my RV 45 minutes away, so doing this quick test before I leave the house is a real bonus. I will also point out(like another reviewer did) that the cheaper testers don't work well, because they don't put a load on the system and the truck does not think it has anything in tow. This tester DOES put a load/resistance on the vehicle so it things the trailer is really hooked up. In my ford, there is an app that will show you if your trailer is hooked up(shows the miles driven and the gain). I plugged this in an drove around the block. It did show "trailer connected" message and the miles driven went up, showing that it really did think my trailer was attached. Nice product.
