The black enamel coating may also help with the ease of inserting in under the buckle clasp. I had ordered another brand which worked fine on my LS2 helmet but needed to be ground much flatter for the Shoei as the steel was too thick. The other dimensions were fine. This device and others like it will not stop someone who is determined to steal your helmet, but is more than enough to deter opportunistic loss.
