I put a little removable athletic tape around the perch, and it worked perfectly. I didn't try it without since I had read the reviews. The add shows for a bigger bird and I have a very small bird and the suction cups would not hold her. The perch won't fit all the way into the base and as the day goes by it loosens under the weight of my tiny Green Cheek Conure so I have to readjust it (and yes I put it perch side up on my window, not sure why the picture has the perch side down, it would probably fall out of the center base immediately!). Its definitely NOT strong enough for a bigger or even slightly heavier bird.
