I fill a large stock pot with some water (about 1/2 full—too much water and the pouring pot will float all around and not be steady and a mess will ensue) and then add the pouring pitcher filled with wax. As the water heats up it melts the wax inside the pitcher. The bottom of the pitcher does touch the bottom of the stock pot.
