Thanks.** A: No. I prefer to empty out the water when not in use, mostly because I have a lot of minerals in my spring water that leaves a residue inside the kettle after a while but once I clean it out, the kettle looks brand new again. I have never had rust with this kettle. **Q: Made in china?** A: Yes **Q: Does this come with instructions of any kind?** A: It does come with instructions but, I find are not necessary as long as you always put at least 1 to 2 inches of water this is a very low maintenance kettle. It is my favorite so far and I had 3 different types previously, handle never gets hot, but you could brew enough for half a pitcher.
