Review: Awesome as Secondary Filter for Pond System - Background: My 1,000 gallon koi pond suffered new-pond syndrome with a bloom of planktonic algae late this spring as pond temperature rose above 60F. While water tests showed that beneficial bacteria had established, the suspended planktonic algae remained making the water dark brown/green. After waiting four weeks with no clearing of the water, I purchased this filter fabric and added two layers to the skimmer box behind the skimmer net and large strainer filter fabric and two layers of the fabric in the waterfall filter box just before (upstream) the bag of bio balls. I found no issues with the pump sucking the skimmer box dry, so two layers of this fabric in the skimmer and waterfall (4 total layers) still allowed water to easily flow through. Performance: After two days, the water began clearing up considerably. I pulled the fabric out of the skimmer box and rang it out by hand to find a massive amount of dark brown/green water/algae trapped in the filter. After rinsing and replacing, I left the fabric another two days, and the water has cleared up even more to where I can now make out objects at the bottom of the pond (3' deep). I rang out the skimmer box fabric to find, again, a ton of brown/green water/algae trapped. At this rate, I expect the water will be cleared up within a week or two. The fabric shows no signs of decomposing, tearing/fraying, or having issues being rang out. Conclusion: Excellent product since all the resources I read said skimmer filter fabric will not catch suspended planktonik algae. I will be running this filter fabric all season long since it is performing so well. The white side of the pink filters is a more open structured capture web. The two types are equally popular. **Q: What’s the difference between this one the green and blue filter floss** A: The green/white 1" material is a fine water polishing material the Pink/white 1" is similar to the green/white, but has a larger capture web on the white side for bigger debris. the 1" blue is a medium semi rigid material that allows for substantial water flow. **Q: difference between this brand and Filterfirst on amazon?** A: I would not buy this brand again. It is nowhere near an inch thick to begin with and flattens out in my filter and provides very poor filtering. **Q: Will this work in a pond boss eight waterfall?** A: Very poor quality, doesn't hold it's shape. Seems like it looses it's texture after a week or too.. Wouldn't recommend it's use ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome as Secondary Filter for Pond System *by T***S on June 28, 2021* Background: My 1,000 gallon koi pond suffered new-pond syndrome with a bloom of planktonic algae late this spring as pond temperature rose above 60F.
