It starts behind the big toe running backward on the sole to about the ankle. It is possible for the arch to start breaking down on people with high arches if proper shoes are not worn. I really suggest seeing a Podiatrist for depper explanation. **Q: Do you recommend a larger shoe size when using these?** A: Not for all kinds of shoes. I can wear some shoes okay with these in. But others definitely don’t fit with these in. You’ll have to use trial and error to figure out which would fit. A larger size isn’t necessarily going to work because the insoles make it so you’ll need a wider shoe, not a longer one. **Q: How can I wash this product or clean it from smelly feet stench?** A: Smelly shoes are caused by bacteria growth. They do fit any shoe I own, HOWEVER that doesn't mean your foot fits with them. My heel will come out of the shoe 9.5 times out of 10 with this sole every time I take a step. I bought high tops so I can make sure my ankle can't move out, that does work, but not every shoe I own is a high top.
