While having it missing doesn't negatively effect waterproofing, it does impact sound deadening and intrusion of liquids you may not want to be stuck in crevices. And lastly, it looks bum ugly without it. I don't know why Honda decided to make this piece a long piece (from rear window to front) but to replace it, while cheap from Honda, the shipping isn't. So what's the solution? custom weather strip it. I've gone through several different types of weather strippings and this the D shape and the trunk lid (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TSWB4T1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) are the ones that seems to work the best in terms of fitment. In the picture of my car, I'm using the D shape and you can tell it works pretty well.
