Hope this helps. **Q: How long does it take for the packet to dissolve once you drop it into your toilet bowl?** A: I drop a packet in the bowl, let it hang out while I brush my teeth, then flush. This is an awesome product, in my experience works better than any I've used (in more than a few decades!). **Q: I don't have a septic system but I've had problems with clogging of the downstairs toilet - because my house is 1870s? or because the toilet is low flow? or because I'd been using thick tp? I've been using Rid-X and that seems to help dissolve the paper in the pipes. Is this an appropriate use or a waste of $?** A: We have friends who have older farmsteads like yours. Their problem with toilet paper and the systems they have are due to the fact that the pipes used back then have clay consistency that is beginning to break down and collapse. It's a big problem, and both of the families have resorted to putting used toilet paper into a trash can next to the toilet. Gross, but it does require the advent of public sewer to answer or new piping installed. Also, the thick toilet paper is a common problem with normal septic systems. We have an older system (house 1970s), but it functions great as we use bacteria tablets regularly as well as SCOTT TISSUE bio degradable toilet paper. We learned from RV days that the holding tanks require certain tp, and SCOTT TISSUE 1000 sheets per roll is the only brand we use. After 2 decades and a family of 6 in our home, we finally had our first pumping of the holding tank. Maintenance is key, but your problem may be much, much different. Try SCOTT and bacteria tablets to help maintain, but I really think it's your collapsing pipes if they're as old as your house. **Q: Does this product also help clean and protect the drain lines like other products claim?** A: I use ROEBIC K-67 in my drains. Green Pig goes down the toilet.
