## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this fit in a pci-ex1 slot?**
A: I have used this card in a 1x slot with the SATA B+M slot SSD and it operated perfectly fine. The PHYSICAL card requires a minimum of a 4x PCIe slot, *UNLESS*!...unless the PCIe 1x slot has an 'open end'. ASRock motherboards, and others but definitely a lot of those, have 'open-end 1x and 4x slots'. The other '3x' worth of PCIe stuff just 'dangles there in open space'. Ideally, the NVME SSD would still operate in 1x PCIe mode, but I can promise that the 1x slot is enough to use a SATA SSD in the B+M slot since I've /done/ it, with my (MS-7673) motherboard having an open-ended 1x slot because I had only 1 16x slot and 3 1x's. I needed that card but had only 1x slots free, so I 'cut the notch open' on the end of the 1x slot, and that worked fine for me. Warning: Don't Do This. It's easy to mess up the PCIe slot, or to dig gouges into the motherboard or all sorts of stuff like that. But, I DID do it, and it did work for me.

So again, this card strictly FITS only into a 4x-and-larger slot, but TECHNICALLY, if the slot is open-ended, it can still OPERATE in a 1x slot, though the NVME device will be at 1x!

Co-answering while I'm here: Using this card in a PCIe 1x slot will make no performance difference to the SATA (B+M key slot) port, and the NVME slot WILL still operate, but only (of necessity) in 1x mode since it's given only a 1x channel to use.

**Q: I've cloned my drive as i always do when upgrading. my bios sees the drive and listed first. won't boot. how do i make it bootable?**
A: I have to respond to this because there is confusing information given here. For Cat22 and TB-10 PLT and anyone else confused by M.2 technology, terminology and compatibility, NVMe is only PCIe. NVMe is Non-Volatile Memory Express and it operates only on PCIe, not SATA (I, II or III). SATA is SATA period, it is not NVMe even if it is one that uses M.2 connector. Your use of the terminology as you have done creates confusion because there is no SATA NVMe or NVMe SATA, they are in fact exclusive from each other and require different M.2 connection types for each. Hence this particular adaptor that can do either in separate M.2 slots. Regarding the original question there are a number of issues why it may not boot and without more information it would take going into a number of scenarios here to find why in your case. Bottom line, M.2 can be NVMe or it can be SATA.

**Q: if 2 drives are installed can be seprate or does it need to be a raid?**
A: be seprate

**Q: The nvme light is solidly on, and the nvme is only seen as a drive, unlike my current drive. what's going on?**
A: One slot is SATA SSD and one slot is NVMe SSD. Sounds like you have two NVMe SSDs inserted.
