I maintain a church truck that gets started only on Sunday and it doesn't drive long enough for the alternator to do anything, plus I don't think the alternator even works so every start drains the battery quite a bit. Within about 2-3 months the battery can go from fully charged to not able to start the truck before I installed a solar panel. Once Covid hit I charged the battery for the final time with a battery charger to get it brought up high enough to start the truck again, but it was still starting very slowly because I couldn't leave it on overnight. I bought a 10w solar panel and attached magnets on the back then stuck it to the hood and plugged it straight into the battery. Now it starts with full battery voltage every Sunday, and even recharges the battery from the starter drain and no alternator recharging. It gets about 10 hours of sunlight every day and it's sitting flat on the hood which gets the best use of the noon sun which I think is the strongest.
