It works wonderfully, dries quickly, and is gentle on my chemical sensitive kids. They are quite sensitive, and surprisingly, none of them even got as much as a headache.We used this on untreated pine flooring. First, we applied two coats of homemade stain. (Steel wool and coffee dissolved in vinegar.) The company does NOT recommend applying over this homemade stain since the results might not be uniform. For example, there might be blotches if it is applied over a tiny piece of steel wool from the stain. We strained our stain and had absolutely NO problems with this sealer over it. It looks wonderful.I would also like to mention Vermont Natural Coatings' customer service. I emailed them several times with questions before purchasing and applying. They not only responded very quickly, often soon after I send my email, but they were also very kind and thorough in their answers. I appreciated their patience with all my questions!Currently, we have one coat down, and we plan to apply a couple more. One coat seems adequate. But since the wood really drank it up quickly, we think a couple more might be a good idea. We have been using and walking on the floor with one coat, however. Moisture has not gotten past the single coat. It is a bit shiny already and feels adequately sealed, if you know what I mean.We used a different natural sealer on wood projects, but it sort of stays a bit tacky--even when fully cured. This PolyWhey does NOT do that. I love it. I don't think I will use anything else. It is so nice to have a healthy alternative. It dries very quickly. I have used it both on untreated wood and on older woodwork that already has a polyurethane coat on it - just sand first. I tend to use the floor finish for everything. The furniture finish is thinner and may be nice on very nice furniture but for woodwork I've used the floor finish. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Truly Wonderful and Natural Floor Finish *by R***K on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2014* This is absolutely an outstanding product. I wanted something natural and non-toxic to put on very old hardwood floors that were badly worn and uneven in color, without having to do the traditional sand and refinish work. This floor finish does not contain formaldehyde or toxic ingredients, and is advertised as also being suitable for application over existing finish, so I gave it a try, after first mixing in some of Vermont Natural Coatings stain color. The floors were cleaned, then the floor finish was applied with a paintbrush. The results are stunning - the floors are now uniform in color and shine with a warm, beautiful glow. I am so glad to see natural products such as this being made available for those who prefer to keep toxic chemicals out of their homes.
