For a normal 5' tub you should not have to worry about making any cuts - there is enough adjustment in the unit to just install it. The tub I was working on was a little off-level at one end, so I did have to trim one of the large panels to have it all line up. I just used my jig saw at a slow speed and cut right through it, nice and clean - just lay down some wide masking tape on the panel and let your saw ride on that to prevent any scratches on the plastic from the tool. I was on the jobsite for several days working on other things, so I only installed 1 of the panels each day, and let it dry overnight. I have several spring loaded poles, used to hold up plastic sheets for temporary walls, and I braced these against the panel and the opposite wall and let the panels dry until the next morning. It really came out nice, and it is a huge improvement over the old thinner walls that I removed. Oh - be sure to have at least 4-5 tubes of shower panel adhesive handy to complete the install. Review: Waste of money - We will be throwing this away and tiling the shower. We can't return it because it has already been cut. What a waste of money. Even with a professional helping, we could not get this to work. Trouble with lining it up and sealing edges and surrounding areas. It seems there only needs to be 3 pieces (back, left side, right side).** A: There are 3 pieces for the back wall, so that it can fit different sizes. They piece together in an overlap. **Q: will this fit 54" tub** A: Yes it will. You have to cut the center panel to size to make it fit your decire size. My tub is 56" and I had to do this step to fit my tub. Good luck. **Q: Does this have to be applied directly to studs, or can it be applied to an existing wall?** A: I installed it onto new water-resistant wall board after tearing out the old tile. The condition of old wall would determine if it will bond properly. Liquid nail tub n tile worked great for me...apply liberally per directions. Don't go onto studs only...not enough surface contact to bond. **Q: What model tub does this fit?** A: I apologize but I didn't know that tubs had various models. Remember those old American Tourist luggage commercials with the ape from years ago......That is what my first thought was upon seeing the box leaning against my front door. 4 of the 5 panels are damaged in the corners, and one in two spots. I can't be bothered sending unit back, plus I need to trim some so I think I can make it work, even with the broken pieces.
