Will this affect the quality output? Cheaper components?** A: I have a gen 2 xpa 1l, and xpa 2, as well as a xpr2 which these amps where styled after. The xprs used to be the flagship model. I also have a xpa5 gen3. The sound quality is all the same across the board. I have switched them around and no difference. As to cheaper parts, no xpa is no the flagship model they just didn't have to many orders for the xpr, since they were expensive heavy and huge wattage. At least that was what was explained to me by Emotiva when I bought the xpa5. **Q: So whats the purpose of my onkyo tx-nr3010 now if i connect all the speaker cables to this amp? will i still use my av receiver.. still confused here** A: This amp only takes the signal your receiver sends it and makes it louder. So this is a 5 channel amp with all the wires run from your receiver, 5 RCA cables, will now power 5 of your speakers leaving your receiver to power the rest. The receiver will still do all of its normal duties, it will just have fewer speakers to divide it's power amongst. Thus it should run cooler and be able to play louder without clipping the rest of your speakers. Just use this amp to power your front 3 speaker for sure since they draw the most power. Use the other two for whatever ones you think will be the best benefit for your system. I am sure someone else mentioned that your receiver is only rated for 2 channels driven. They are correct. So how ever many speakers you have left take that how ever many watts a channel multiple it by 2 then divide by the number of speakers left to run. Once you have that number find the speaker sensitivity that the avr will run. Let's say they are 90db. That means if you sit 1 meter away and use 1 watt of power the speakers will play at a volume of 90db. Now most people sit 2 meters away so let's say at that distance 87db. For every 3db increase of volume it takes double the power. So at your seat on the couch 90db 2 watts, 93db 4 watts, 96db 8 watts, 99db 16 watts, 102 db 32 watts, 105db 64 watts. 105 db is the 0 setting on the volume on most avr receivers. This 105db setting is referred to as reference level meaning the level these sounds occur in the real world. If your amp doesn't have the power after you divide to reach a certain DB level than don't push it past, at that point your speakers will clip. Clipping causes speaker damage quick. It made a very noticeable difference.
