Like one you would use to get into another room** A: we have used four of these on full size doors into closets and they all work well. **Q: Will these latches keep kitchen cabinet doors closed during an earthquake?** A: No, they are not a positive latch - they are a tension latch. Anything inside the cabinet could bang the door open during an earthquake. **Q: Does this require a gap between the back of the door and the face of the cabinet to operate the pushing to open?** A: Yes, but not much more (if any) than a bumper pad might require. It is about the same as a hidden hinge creates - roughly 1/16.
