If I let it run completely out of charge, I just plug it in, wait about thirty seconds, leave it plugged in and it still opens the can quickly, but I hold the cord up a bit, out of the way, so it does not wrap around the can. I have used it to open the many sizes of round-top cans, including gallon size, large and small tuna cans, and tiny six-ounce cans. I hold the bottom of the six-ounce cans, or they will tip. Small tuna cans, I stack to open. I have not opened a rectangular, or triangular can yet. The magnet on the handle lifts the lid, when you lift the handle slightly. The handle also holds the blade, and easily removes from the unit by lifting slightly farther than just to remove the lid from the can. The handle may then be submerged to wash, but the rest of the unit can only be wiped with a damp cloth. When not in use, I keep my can opener in a bowl in the cabinet. The handle and unit housing are plastic, so it should be used without much force. It took me a bit to get accustomed to placing it properly on the can to cut, but I can do it with one hand now. Sorry. I use mine alot. When I fully charge it I can usually leave it on charge for quite awhile. But not always, 2 to 3 hours will usually do it. But sometimes I have to use it one time after another for gallon cans. It it does run completely down on a gallon can. AndI can plug it in ASAP and in 10 to 15 minutes I can do another. Time after Time. But I always have a back up just in case.Hand can opener. Never know when something might go wrong. Or the electricity goes out :) **Q: Can the battery be replaced?** A: I purchased mine in 2014 & I’m having to replace it now because it no longer holds a charge.
