If you are looking for a brush like the old, original, Scalpmaster 125, this Phillips brush is close but not the same quality ... I don't think I'll buy another. And forget the Scalpmaster made in China it's a terrible substitute. Hope this helps with your decision. **Q: Do the bristles fall back into the cushion while brushing?** A: You can avoid the early ocurance of this by keeping this brush in a box or it's original plastic container which would protect those pins. This is not an inexpensive brush by my standards. Take care of it and it should last. I still have some old scalp master 125 brushes that say Made in France that are over 35 years old I just can't throw away. I pull the pins back out when needed and use them on my own hair. These are recycled from my Dog Grooming Supplies.....I have Briards, a long haired breed. New pin brushed are bought for them. Hope this was helpful **Q: Why do you state that it is made in France when it is clearly made in China ?** A: Because they were originally made in France and the two that I purchased years ago have "Made in France" stamped on them. **Q: HOw does this brush compare the Jean Pierre brushes?** A: I have no knowledge of Jean Pierre brushes, but this brush has been a good brush for those with long, full hair. It feels good on the scalp and seems to fluff and brush the hair without tearing at it. This was a reorder as an older one finally broke. I have used this type of hair brush for at least 30 years, I think. And this recent order was to replace one I got for my daughter years ago. Been using for a little over 3 months now. It takes a little getting used to, as the bristles are not rounded at the tips & feel sharp to the touch (on your scalp only), it hurts at first, but after a few days, you'll never go back to any other brush (I know because I've tried & it doesn't cut it!). I'm a guy with very long hair & am very rough when brushing, both on my scalp & hair. I loose less than half as much hair compared to any other brush I've used in the last 15 years. No other brush has scratched my head a nicely either!!! Only downfall is the cheap plastic. It has broken on me, just above the handle. We'll, it's cracked not broken, I still use it daily... I'm buying another one right now & as soon as it shows up, I'm going to coat the old one in apoxy & hope that it will last for years to come. If not, maybe I'll work on being a little less rough while brushing my hair with the new one, or I'll just keep getting new ones.
