They are critical in allowing airflow under the laptop where most laptops cooling vents are located to help keep it cool. Heat is any laptops worst enemy and life shortener. These are cheap, and stick on to the laptop easily (you should clean intended location on bottom of laptop with alcohol prior to sticking the pads on. These came as a dozen pads, so now I have a backup supply of them if I wind up losing another!
