It appears to be taller and thus drops lower than a regular strainer assembly.** A: It depends on your setup. I just had to cut about an inch off of the plastic tailpiece that I was using with my old strainer. The tailpiece connects into the P-trap or into a Tee that goes to your garbage disposal drain before the P-trap. **Q: Mine didnt come with installation instructions. Where do the gaskets go? The white pvc one and the black rubber one? Do i need silicone?** A: The white gasket is meant to be used in place of plumber's putty - it doesn't matter what kind of sink you have. Put the white gasket on first, then run the strainer body through the hole in your sink. From the bottom of the sink put the black gasket on ribbed side up and tighten with the plastic nut. BTW, I missed my instructions at first - they were in the sealed bag with the stopper. **Q: can the sink strainer be used in line with a garbage disposal? I don't typically grind lettuce, celery stalk, egg shells, etc.** A: I have a double sink. One side it has a garbage disposal and the other side the sink strainer. Especially since our city recently added compost services to the yard debris service. Why are we throwing food down the sink? It always seems to eventually fail, either the garbage disposal or a clogged drain. So, we opted for bringing some much needed change into our household. First of all, the baskets and drain are much larger than I was anticipating. Then again, I think most of us don't see the bulk of a drain as it's under the sink. These were installed in my dual-sink, custom Corian counter and it literally took less than 5 minutes. I used the supplied foam-type gaskets instead of plumber's putty. It compresses nicely and hasn't had any leaks. The strainer baskets are wonderfully deep, so that allows you to wash off dishes that have a lot of food on them (or washing out stew from the Instant Pot) and when you're finished washing dishes or rinsing them for the dishwasher to easily lift out the basket (with the nice metal handle) and dump into the compost bin, or garbage can. I also updated the drain pipes at the same time and it's been an excellent upgrade to our kitchen. No more ugly black rubber garbage disposal drain gasket and the horrible wafting smells coming up from the old garbage disposal. The only concern I have is the strainer and basket feel a bit thin, like stamped metal, but it's stainless steel and it's a great value and aesthetic. My wife even commented on how nice they look. Definitely exceeded my expectations and I've never seen anything like this at the box stores. This is where Amazon shopping really excels for me.
