Maybe due to dishwasher over time. This one looked sturdy reviews were good. I felt the stainless would dishwasher wash well. BEWARE.....Youlsa, this baby is razer sharp. An excellent feature, however Never use without guard. And slice slow, if you slip, you will be at the ER. [happened to me with the last slicer I bought'] I now wear rubber gloves when slicing, no damp slippery hands and a bit of protection. Lesson learned, When blade dulls and your adding pressure to slice, time to replace.
